SAN DIEGO – Cmdr. Nellie Wang was relieved by Cmdr. Catherine Reppert as commanding officer of the Independence-variant littoral combat ship USS Montgomery (LCS 8) during a change of command ceremony held aboard USS Montgomery, June 27. Capt. Jose A. Roman, commodore, Littoral Combat Ship Squadron One, was the presiding officer and guest speaker at the ceremony.
During Wang’s time in command, she trained and mentored several ships and other commanding officers while in command of Montgomery, one of the Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) training hulls.
“Nellie, thank you for your outstanding leadership of Montgomery.” said Capt. Jose Roman, commodore, Littoral Combat Ship Squadron One. “Your steady command and commitment to excellence have left a lasting impact on not only the crew of Montgomery, but those off-hull crews that have embarked and prepared for deployment.”
During the ceremony, Wang was awarded various command awards for her superior accomplishments and will be reporting as Littoral Combat Ship Squadron One Chief Staff Officer.
“Montgomery has a great ship because of each and every one of you," said Wang “your pride in her and your relentless determination towards mission and combat readiness.”
Wang, a native of San Francisco, Calif. and raised in Seoul, South Korea, graduated from the University of Washington with a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics. She was commissioned through the Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps program in June 2006.
Montgomery is homeported in San Diego as a part of Littoral Combat Ship Squadron One. Littoral combat ships are fast, optimally manned, mission-tailored surface combatants that operate in near-shore and open-ocean environments, winning against 21st-century threats. LCS integrate with joint, combined, manned and unmanned teams to support forward-presence, maritime security, sea control, and deterrence missions around the globe.
