KABUL, Afghanistan — Afghan National Army forces operating with ISAF forces in the Garm Ser district of Helmand province discovered a significant cache of weapons and drugs yesterday.
The force found one Pakistan passport, a spool of command wire used for IED's, 38 C-sized batteries, three loaded AK 47 machine gun magazines, 27 shotgun shells, one pellet gun, one shot gun, one AK 47, several rounds of ammunition, and almost 181 kg (400 pounds) of opium.
"Our soldiers and our ISAF partners put themselves in harm's way every day," said Maj. Gen. Mohammad Zahir Azimi, MOD spokesman. "Finding and destroying caches like this make our country safer for our soldiers and each of our citizens. Additionally, by finding and destroying collections of drugs, we make it more difficult for the insurgency to fund their operations."
The cache, discovered by ANA forces inside a compound underneath a pile of clothing, has been disposed.
