Italian PRT renovates silk factory

KABUL, Afghanistan — The Italian Provincial Reconstruction Team attended a ceremony marking the completion of renovations to a silk factory in the Zenda Jan District, Herat province, Tuesday.

The PRT provided factory upgrades including a new roof, internal and external wall maintenance, fitting and testing of electrical wiring, and installation of doors and windows.

The factory will be used for rearing silkworms for silk production. The silk will mainly be used for the production of fine fabrics for furniture and clothing.

This initiative aims to support business activity in the district and boost economic development in the province.

The project cost $13,000 and was funded by the Italian Department of Defence.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Dawood Saha, district governor, Mr. Fakhraddin and Mr. Dastagir, members of the provincial Department of Agriculture, and other local authorities and elders.
