KABUL - After completing a command post exercise designed to prepare them for their upcoming deployments to the Nimruz and Helmand provinces, Afghan national army's 215th Corps and 1/215th Brigade graduated at the Consolidated Fielding Center, Jan. 28.

The exercise scenario simulated Counter Insurgency situations that the two units are likely to encounter by incorporating regional intelligence date that closely reflects security challenges currently affecting the Helmand River Valley.

Training for the exercise began, Jan. 16, at the CFC, providing the 215th Corps and 1st Brigade the opportunity to practice basic staff planning processes and operation center procedures. According to the training developers, the scenario was developed to reflect the complexity of COIN operations by having the ANA partner with coalition military organizations, and cooperate with joint agencies, inter-governmental agencies, non-governmental agencies and local security forces.

The training culminated in a two-day exercise which simulated how the units would operate in Helmand River Valley. The scenario also stressed the importance of coordination, communication and critical thinking toward an end-state.

The 70-strong 215th Corps is bound for Nimruz province and the 20 member 1st Brigade will be deployed to Helmand province.
