KABUL, Afghanistan - An Afghan-international security force searched a compound next to an IED strike in Helmand province today and found several damaged Holy Qurans in an abandoned building.

"This deplorable tactic of destroying the Holy Quran demonstrates a lack of respect for the religion and the people of Afghanistan," said Navy Capt. Jane Campbell, ISAF spokesperson.

The joint security force documented and reported the incident to district leadership immediately.

ISAF forces are trained on the sanctity of the holy book and go to significant steps to protect it. ISAF is an international force that includes Muslim soldiers.

ISAF and Afghan forces were clearing an area after an IED strike. There were no injuries.
