Craven County Leadership Tour

Leadership Craven Class of 2022 toured Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Cherry Point, North Carolina, Sept. 8, 2022. This annual program is run by the New Bern Area Chamber of Commerce and gives local leaders, business owners, and professionals knowledge of the economic and social impact of their neighboring Marine Corps installation.

While on the air station, Leadership Craven got an inside look into how Marines help the surrounding communities and what a day-in-the-life of a Cherry Point Marine might look like. The class received a Cherry Point 101 briefing to start off the tour and was then guided through the 2d Low Altitude Air Defense Battalion indoor weapons simulator, the Provost Marshal’s Office K-9 units, and the air traffic control tower. In addition to Cherry Point, Leadership Craven visited various organizations in Craven County throughout their program, which is designed to develop a new generation of leadership to take Craven County beyond the 21st century.

The air station works with the New Bern Area Chamber of Commerce to foster positive relationships between MCAS Cherry Point and the local communities to increase public awareness of the contributions made for national defense by the Marines, Sailors, and civilian contractors on the Installation.
