Cherry Point Sailors Honor Clinic Namesake, Medal of Honor Recipient

Sailors serving aboard Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point recently honored the Medal of Honor recipient for whom their clinic is named after.

Navy Capt. Douglas Stephens and Command Master Chief Jason Juarez, the leadership team of the Halyburton Medical Clinic, laid a wreath at the Marine Corps Memorial in Arlington, Virginia on Monday, May 10, 2021 in honor of Pharmacist’s Mate Second Class William D. Halyburton Jr.

Halyburton was posthumously presented the Medal of Honor for his actions on May 10, 1945 when he saved the life of a Marine by shielding him with his own body during fierce combat on Okinawa, Japan.
