FORWARD OPERATING BASE SALERNO, Afghanistan — Combined efforts of Kiowa pilots from B Troop, 7th Squadron, 17th Cavalry, and ground elements from H Company, 2nd Battlion, 377th Parachute Field Artillery Regiment, lead to the recovery of a recoiless rifle Sept.11 that has been used to wreak havoc on the Sabari District of the Khost province in eastern Afghanistan.

The Soldiers from Company H reported indirect fire, and called for air support. The Kiowas were on scene immediately, and located the recoiless rifle.

A team from Company H was then dispatched by Black Hawk Helicopters to recover the rifle.

"The recoiless rifle was a big find, because Sabari has been getting hit by that for months. Getting it off of the battle field will make a big impact on the area," said Cpt. Michael Lanzafama, the B Troop commander and Kiowa pilot.

No coalition force or civilian casualties were sustained.
