WASHINGTON -- Delaware Army National Guard Soldiers continue to serve in support of the 59th Presidential Election here, including manning overnight shifts while many would be in bed.

“It was a peaceful night,” said Pfc. Brooke Walls, with the Delaware Army Guard’s 262nd Heavy Equipment Maintenance Company. “It was cold, though.”

January low temperatures in Washington, D.C., can get lower than 29 degrees Fahrenheit.

The Soldiers carry heat packets and wear cold weather clothing to stay warm and try to pass the time away with the help of their battle buddies nearby.

By the time the sun comes up, breakfast is being served and the next shift starts.
