KABUL, Afghanistan — Three International Security Assistance Force service members were killed August 1 after their patrol was struck by two improvised explosive devices in southern Afghanistan.

"Our thoughts and prayers go to the loved ones of these valorous Soldiers," said Brig. Gen. Eric Tremblay, ISAF spokesperson. "Their sacrifices, although very difficult to accept were not made in vain."

"The struggle to achieve a secure Afghanistan is challenging and it requires the complete and selfless commitment of every ISAF service member. But together with the Afghan national security forces and the will of the international community, we will prevail."

It is ISAF policy not to release the nationality of any casualty prior to the relevant national authority doing so.
