KABUL, Afghanistan — An International Security Assistance Force service member died of wounds suffered in a direct fire incident with insurgents that occurred in southern Afghanistan.

"We grieve this evening for the loss of yet another brave service member," said Brigadier-General Eric Tremblay, ISAF spokesperson. "My most sincere condolences go out to all of his loved ones in their time of sorrow."

"I hope that they can find some consolation in knowing that this service member's sacrifice was made to help provide a chance for the Afghan forces to take responsibility for the security of their people, and for the Afghan government to improve their civil society."

It is ISAF policy not to release the nationality of any casualty prior to the relevant national authority doing so.
