MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. — Sgt. Maj. Brenda L. Jackson assumed the post of sergeant major of Combat Logistics Regiment 17, 1st Marine Logistics Group, during a relief and appointment ceremony at Camp Pendleton, Calif., July 21.
Sgt. Maj. Darryl G. Mills relinquished a non-commissioned officer sword, called the Sword of Office, which represents the post of regimental sergeant major.
Mills is awaiting orders for his next assignment in his hometown of Houston.
During the ceremony, Mills spoke of his appreciation for the Marines, Sailors and their families during his time with CLR-17.
"I want to thank you for everything you have done," Mills said. "Whatever I needed done you Marines got it done without a problem."
Mills also thanked all of the company first sergeants of CLR-17 for their hard work.
"I know when I go back to Houston to finish my time in the Marine Corps, I'm going to miss you," Mills said.
Jackson served at Marine Corps Tactical Systems Support Activity prior to assuming her post as the CLR-17 sergeant major.
She addressed the Marines of CLR-17 before the closing moments of the ceremony.
"I look forward to working with you," Jackson said. "Thank you for the great work you have done for my three short weeks here."
Jackson, who has served 27 years in the Marine Corps, said that she can't wait to work alongside the commanding officer, and that she and the Marines of CLR-17 will make a great team.
