JOINT BASE CHARLESTON, S.C. --- Aircrew from the 315th and 628th Airlift Wing perform formation training and an air drop with four C-17A Globemaster III, Feb. 6, 2020. This sortie brought all of the reservist airlift squadrons on Joint Base Charleston together to conduct a large formation training event.

The reservist aircrews assigned to the 315th Airlift Wing perform this large-formation flight once a year during their unit training assembly, a two-week training formation.

“It’s valuable to practice,” said Staff Sgt. Dean Stainbrook, a 14th Airlift Squadron loadmaster. “With how things are going these days, it’s possible we will have to do a real world air drop mission at any moment so it’s best to stay ready.”

For this sortie they air dropped 4 containers in one pass and launched flares at Northern Auxiliary Airfield, S.C.

The 315th AW provides unrivaled operational support to sustain combat readiness of three C-17A Globemaster III flying squadrons, one aero-medical evacuation squadron and one airlift control flight for the global transport of troops and war fighting material.
