'Furious 48' readiness exercise

The 48th Fighter Wing, 100th Air Refueling Wing and 352nd Special Operations Wing completed a 48-hour readiness exercise Feb. 13.

This iteration of the exercise was the first time the three wings fully integrated combined flying schedules and scenarios.

“This is a ‘war game’ which simulates a conflict with a near-peer adversary, while also evaluating the Liberty Wing’s operational readiness,” said Lt. Col. Mark Pauly, 48th FW inspector general. “The scenarios are designed to challenge every Airman and each unit’s mission objectives.”

FURIOUS 48 is designed to prepare Airmen for sustained combat operations during contested and degraded environments during hours of light and darkness.

“We have a supportive community and we understand the noise can be a disturbance, which is why we try to minimize how often we do this,” said Col. Will Marshall, 48th FW commander. “With that in mind, we also have to maximize learning opportunities when we conduct these exercises.”

This training provides both aircrew and support personnel stationed at the Liberty Wing the experience needed to maintain a ready force capable of delivering worldwide responsive combat air power and support, secure sovereign skies and defeat any adversary.
