Living the dream of a Polish soldier

HOHENFELS, GERMANY – Pvt. Filip Wiacek of the 1st Motorized Infantry Battalion of the Polish Army sat on top of a German hilltop alongside U.S. Soldiers in Hohenfels, Germany during Combined Resolve Exercise XIII, January 25, 2020.

Wiacek of the MIB is proud to serve his country and serve with other countries’ armies.

“It is a good experience because it gives us a chance to see our weaknesses and improve ourselves,” said Wiacek. “We can learn from each other and find other ways to solve a problem when a situation arises.”

Wiacek was interested in joining the Polish Army since he was seven, and now has been serving for two years.

“Two brothers of my grandfather served in the Army and fought in the Second World War,” said Wiacek. “I learned of their history and that is why I decided to join the Army.”

Wiacek has served in multiple exercises around the world.

“My first military exercise was in the Czech Republic,” said Wiacek. “But this is the first time being in an exercise this big.”

The Army has been a memorable and exciting time for Wiacek.

“I am proud to be a soldier,” said Wiacek. “And my family before me who served in World War II, every day I am proud of them.”
