1 ID (FWD) medical personnel visit local university

POZNAN, Poland -- Medical personnel with First Infantry Division Forward (1 ID FWD) met with faculty and students from the Poznan University of Medical Sciences (PUMS) on Dec. 16, in Poznan, Poland.

During the visit to the university Capt. Erin Fetzer, a physician assistant, and Sgt. 1st Class Lemuel Rodriguez, a combat medic, both with 1 ID (FWD) were able to view and interact with medical simulators used by students for training.

“We were invited by the university to come and view their facilities, they have two floors of amazing state of the art simulations,” said Rodriguez.

Events like this are a vital part of strengthening bonds between The United States Army and the communities where Soldiers live and work.

“We’re all a team, we live in the same country, and this is a great way to set the theater,” said Fetzer, “this shows locals that we’re here and ready to help.”

At the conclusion of the meet and greet, Fetzer was invited back to the university to give a pilot lecture on combat casualty care.

“The students have a lot of interest in learning the type of medical care that we perform in the field,” said Fetzer, “hopefully this will turn into a lecture series.”

Fetzer will be giving her first lecture at the university in January.
