Staff at Center for Surface Combat Systems Unit (CSCSU) Great Lakes concluded their week-long collection event to benefit Warren Township Food Pantry on Nov. 27.
Organized by CSCSU’s Petty Officer Association (POA), the command collected (xxx pounds) of boxed and canned food.
“This year, on behalf of the CSCSU Petty Officer Association, we decided to organize a canned food drive to help our local community who may not be as fortunate during the holiday period,” said Boatswain’s Mate 1st Class Claudia Carpio, leading petty officer of CSCSU Great Lakes Boatswains Mate ‘A’ School and president of the command’s POA. “We love to stay involved with the community, and it wouldn’t be possible without the help of our fellow Sailors at CSCSU Great Lakes.”
Various canned goods and non-perishable items such as green beans, corn, mashed potatoes, and stuffing have been donated. The POA will be delivering the items collected on Dec. 4.
“We were able to bring together various canned goods and non-perishable items and ensure families in need are able to provide as meal for their families,” Carpio said. “Assisting the community is always gratifying and we hope to continue aiding our surrounding communities. Hooyah Navy!”
Assisting the Warren Township Food Pantry is only one of many community related events the command gets involved with throughout the year.
"The Navy has a rich history of giving back to local communities, and the Sailors here never cease to amaze me by giving throughout the year," said CSCSU Great Lakes Commanding Officer Capt. Ricardo Enriquez. "It’s always a humbling and heartwarming experience to know that you have helped so many families enjoy a warm meal during the holiday season, I can’t thank the Sailors enough for what they do.”
