100th ARW hosts second resiliency tactical pause

The 100th Air Refueling Wing hosted its second Resilience Tactical Pause Nov. 7 – 8, 2019 at RAF Mildenhall, England.

The first day of the tactical pause consisted of three all-calls, while the second day consisted of various small unit discussions.

“Following the call for a tactical pause in August by the Chief of Staff, the leadership team here wanted our Airmen and their families to know it was not a one-time deal, but that we are committed to maintaining a climate which fosters resilience,” Alblinger said. “We want all members of Team Mildenhall to feel as though they are part of a family, to know that leadership is there for them and to know what resources are available to them.”

The theme for the all-calls, one of which was held for Team Mildenhall spouses and dependents, was “Take 10”, which discussed the idea that it takes only just 10 minutes to make a change.

“Whether it’s taking a break after experiencing a frustrating situation and using that time to refocus, or taking 10 minutes to check in on your Airmen and see how they’re doing,” said Lieutenant Colonel Michael Alblinger, 100th ARW director of staff. “Just these 10 minutes in your day can have a big impact on your own well-being and those around you.”

Airmen also had the opportunity to listen to guest speaker Gill Hayes, a mental health and suicide prevention speaker, who reinforced the sentiment of overcoming challenges and working to help others with their struggles.

“Anybody can suffer from mental health issues, but creating a personal toolbox and coming up with a plan to support your well-being is the key to keeping yourself up.” Hayes said. “The first step in recovery is acknowledging you may need help, and reaching out to those who can help.”

Airman 1st Class Luis Chavez, 100th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron aircraft and electrical environmental technician, said having opportunities to come together and start a conversation is important.

“It’s important to bring this up and have a conversation, especially with our acquaintances at work, mostly because we’re all here and we’re all away from family,” Chavez said.

Before ending the all-call and steering into the second day of the event, Col. Cassius Bentley, 100th ARW vice commander, reiterated the significance of each person in the Team Mildenhall family and that no one person should be afraid to ask for help.

“There is not one person here who isn’t absolutely important to our mission,” Bentley stated. “But if you ever need to take a knee, and have someone take your place, so you can focus on improving your well-being – whether it be mental, social, physical or spiritual – don’t be afraid to ask.”
