Commander, Navy Recruiting Command visits Navy Recruiting District San Antonio

JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO, FORT SAM HOUSTON – (Nov. 6, 2019) To oversee mission accomplishment and the welfare of the Sailors under his command, Rear Adm. Brendan McLane, commander, Navy Recruiting Command (NRC), joined by Command Master Chief Don Charbonneau and Master Chief Navy Counselor Frank Tiongco, NRC national chief recruiter, visited Sailors and support personnel assigned to Navy Recruiting District (NRD) San Antonio, Nov. 5 – 6.

McLane traveled throughout Texas to visit Navy Recruiting Stations (NRS) Waco, Round Rock, San Marcos, and New Braunfels. Additionally, the NRC leadership hosted a town hall meeting at Donald Evans Auditorium.

According to McLane, of Palestine, Texas, he wanted his team to visit the recruiting units in Texas to receive feedback and see what is working.

“It’s great to be here and NRD San Antonio is killing it; their productions levels are great in a very tough market,” said McLane. “Our recruiters are out there finding great high-quality future Sailors and they are needed in the fleet.”

Since the summer of 2016, NRC has been in the process of transforming how it operates to remain sustainable and successful with a focus on improving the customer experience to the fleet, Sailors, and applicants, resulting in better customer experience and recruiter effectiveness and satisfaction.

“It was great for the admiral and staff to visit with us. It demonstrates that they care about our recruiters and their task of recruiting Texas’ best and brightest,” said Chief Navy Counselor Richard Dovalina, NRD San Antonio’s Division Three leading chief petty officer. “It’s also good for our top leadership to visit the field to get a pulse of what’s happening away from the headquarters. Also, the best recommendations and critiques comes from where the rubber meets the road, and that’s the field recruiter.”

According to Aviation Ordnanceman 2nd Class Madison Fleeup, assigned to NRS North Austin, the visit was very productive.

“I felt like he really cares about us and took our feedback seriously,” said Fleeup. “It was awesome to meeting the National Chief Recruiter and Command Master Chief.”

Prior to departing the city, NRC leadership attended the annual Spirit of America Dinner, organized by the San Antonio Chamber of Commerce as a part of Celebrate America's Military which is an annual tribute to the military.

Hundreds of military personnel attended the event from all branches of service as well as business and civic leaders from across Joint Base San Antonio.

NRD San Antonio’s area of responsibility includes more than 34 Navy Recruiting Stations and Navy Officer Recruiting Stations spread throughout 144,000 square miles of Central and South Texas territory.
NRC consists of a command headquarters, three Navy Recruiting Regions, 16 Navy Recruiting Districts and 10 Navy Talent Acquisition Groups that serve more than 1,300 recruiting stations across the country.
