The Air Force brings thousands of people from many different places and backgrounds together to be a part of something greater than themselves.
As time goes on, service members realize the people they serve with aren’t just co-workers - they’re family.
Each of one these Airmen has their own story.
Airman 1st Class Priscila Lopez, 366th Civil Engineer Squadron operations management field professional, seems like a shy, reserved and quiet young woman at first glance; but when she performs her duties, a strong Airman emerges.
Growing up, Lopez attended Air Shows at Davis-Monthan AFB, AZ, and went to the Air and Space Museum. However, she didn't know that she was surrounded by the Air Force history and culture that she would soon be apart of.
But when Lopez made the decision to join the military in 2018, all these things played a part in her realizing the Air Force was the right choice for her.
“Being a single mom I wanted to be able to provide my son an example of someone to look up to that is hardworking and independent,” Lopez said.
Lopez brings these characteristics to her shop, which helps keep the base operational by coordinating repairs, work orders and renovating new or existing buildings. She takes in these requests and ensures they reach the right section within the civil engineering squadron so they can be taken care of.
She also develops and administers facility manager programs, which ensure quality and compliance with policies, current directions, and other publications for 865 facilities at Mountain Home AFB.
On top of Lopez’s additional duties, she also takes the time to help and train her fellow Airmen within her office to do their jobs more efficiently.
“Without the help of others along the way, I wouldn't be here,” Lopez said. “From joining the military to becoming an operations management field professional, I’ve had support from others along the way so I'm always willing to help others.”
Lopez's leadership recognizes her amazing work ethic and how she is a leader within the office despite only being an Airman 1st Class.
“What sets Airman 1st Class Lopez apart is that she constantly seeks out opportunities to increase her job proficiency and consistently leads and teaches newer and younger Airmen critical knowledge and skills that helps the section run smooth and flawlessly,” said 1st Lt. Samuel Parker, 366th CES operations engineering chief.
Lopez not only seeks opportunities to better herself within her job. When she is not wearing her uniform she is pursuing her degree. This degree is Lopez's first step in reaching her goal to commission as an officer.
“Due to my love of physical fitness I plan to commission as an officer and become a physical therapist within the Air Force so I can help others reach their fitness goal,” Lopez said.
From work to personal life Lopez displays dedication and drive in all she does. While pursuing her personal goal she also still takes the time to ensure that the Airmen around her are set up for success. She is truly the embodiment of an amazing and hardworking Airman.
“I can't be average or just let my life pass me by and not improve,” Lopez said. “Knowing that I always have room for improvement keeps me striving towards that goal.”
