Forty-seven fighters joined the Maghaweir al-Thowra (MaT) ranks within the 55 km Deconfliction Zone (DCZ) in September. The increase of fighters allows the MaT to expand security capabilities in the areas around Rukban Camp in southern Syria.

“We found it prudent to plus up the MaT’s numbers,” said the U.S. Army Special Forces commander working alongside the Syrian partner force.

Preventing incursions and denying Daesh networks the ability to transit through the area is a big part of the MaT mission.

“We have identified an area, within the DCZ, where we felt it necessary to create a new combat operation post,” the special forces commander said. “This area is a historic incursion site.” “(The) MaT are doing a great job of providing security for the area,” said the commander.

The MaT is a defeat Daesh partner with the Coalition operating in southern Syria.
