Maghaweir al-Thowra (MaT) graduated the first 47 recruits from a newly revamped basic training program in September, 2019. Alongside Coalition special forces, the MaT adapted their initial entry training program to ensure its new fighters soldiers are ready to fight enemies on all fronts.
The program consists of military instructions on weapons and tactical movements taught by senior Mat leadership and U.S. Army Green Berets.
“This class was very special with their training,” said. Col. Talah Muhanned, MaT commander. “We put some time to do high morale training to achieve specific goals.”
One of the new additions to the program is the obstacle course, this is the final requirement that all recruits must successfully negotiate.
“The intent is to test the recruit’s level of mental toughness, cooperation and fitness,” said Muhanned.
The method simulates “real battle” experiences of the MaT, said Muhanned.
“The enemy is very voracious and we want our new recruits to achieve total readiness before we send them to their positions throughout the DCZ (Deconfliction Zone).”
