CENTENNIAL, Colo. – The Colorado National Guard will welcome U.S. Army Brig. Gen. Doug Paul as the commanding general of the Colorado Army National Guard at a change of command ceremony Oct. 19, 2019, at Founders Field, Fort Carson, Colorado Springs.
During the ceremony, Assistant Adjutant General, Army U.S. Army Brig. Gen. Laura Clellan will relinquish command to Paul. Prior to the ceremony, Paul will formally be promoted to the rank of brigadier general.
“Brig. Gen. Clellan made a lasting impact on the Colorado National Guard by strengthening the integration of our diverse Joint Force and successfully designating Colorado as a Growth State for the National Guard,” The Adjutant General of Colorado U.S. Air Force Maj. Gen. Michael Loh said. “Brig. Gen. Paul is a highly decorated Soldier with a distinguished record of service, and I know that many great things will come from his leadership.”
Paul most recently served as the commander of Theater Special Operations Detachment-Korea.
In 2018-19, Paul deployed as the deputy commander for the Combined Joint Special Operations Task Force – Afghanistan where he led a task force comprised of U.S., NATO, and Afghan special operations forces in support of U.S. and the government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan interests.
Clellan was commissioned in 1989 through the Reserve Officers Training Corps program at Rio Grande College in Ohio. After commissioning, she served in various assignments in the U.S. Army and U.S. Army Reserve before transferring to the COARNG in 1998.
During her time in the COARNG, Clellan served as commander of the 220th Military Police Company, commander of the 193rd Military Police Battalion, commander of the 168th Regional Training Institute, three years as Land Component Commander and two years as AAG-Army.
The CONG will hold a retirement ceremony for Clellan Nov. 3 at 1 p.m. at the Army Aviation Support Facility at Buckley Air Force Base, Aurora.
