AL ANBAR PROVINCE, Iraq — Gen. James T. Conway, the Commandant of the Marine Corps, recently paid a visit to the service members of Multi National Force-West currently deployed to Iraq's Al Anbar province in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Joined by Sgt. Maj. Carlton W. Kent, the Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps, Conway's visit to Iraq was part of a multi-country tour throughout the Central Command theater of operations where Marines are currently deployed.

In addition to meeting with Maj. Gen. R.T. Tryon, the commanding general of MNF-W and his staff, Conway and Kent conducted a whirlwind tour of various forward operating and contingency bases throughout Al Anbar, visiting the men and women of Regimental Combat Teams 6 and 8, the 2nd Marine Logistics Group (Forward), and the 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing (Forward).

During each of their stops, Conway and Kent spoke to groups of Marines and sailors on a wide range of subjects such as the importance of the ongoing missions in Iraq and Afghanistan, budgetary and manning issues, family readiness, and personnel matters, among other topics.
