FCSA signing ceremony planned at Old Fort Niagara

Buffalo, NY – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District and the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation will host a Feasibility Cost Sharing Agreement signing ceremony, Friday, September 20, 2019 at 11:00am at Old Fort Niagara, GPS Location: 102 Morrow Plaza, Youngstown, NY 14174. The ceremony will take place in front of the French Castle.

Attendees include:
Alexandra Gould, from the office of Rep. Collins Collins.
Mark Mistretta, Regional Director, NYS Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation
Army Capt. Henry Harpen, Project Manager, USACE-Buffalo District
Army Lt. Col. Jason Toth, District Commander, USACE-Buffalo District

Under the Continuing Authority Program Section 14, Emergency Streambank and Shoreline Protection, alternatives will be looked at to protect Old Fort Niagara from Lake Ontario wave action.

The seawall along the north shoreline, where the Niagara River flows into Lake Ontario, has been eroding over the years, and this project would investigate methods to protect the “French Castle” built in 1726 and the North Redoubt, built in 1771.
