Liberty Wing hosts 33rd annual Retiree Appreciation Day

ROYAL AIR FORCE LAKENHEATH, England – The 48th Fighter Wing recently hosted local U.S. military retirees for the 33rd annual Retiree Appreciation Day here.

This event was held to honor those who served and provide information and resources from support organizations.

“It gives back to the retiree community and keeps that military connection,” said Darrell Russell, Retiree Activities Office director for RAF Lakenheath and RAF Mildenhall. “The retiree community consists of not only the retirees but their spouses, widows, and dependents.”

Retirees attended a social, luncheon, and information fair. Support organizations such as medical legal and finance were available to provide information and resources.

“We receive many calls from widows and retirees who want help with the U.S. tax system and guidance about how to receive social security benefits while being overseas.” said Russell.

The Liberty Wing also provided the retirees a weapons loading demonstration, and the group toured an F-15E Strike Eagle and CV-22 Osprey from the 352nd Special Operations Wing.

The Air Force Retiree Activities Program is an official program that provides a conduit through which members of the AF retiree community can receive benefits guidance, stay current on AF affairs, stay informed on the status of changes to their benefits, maintain contact with other retirees, and provide suggestions for improvement.
