Soldier Spotlight: Sgt. Sarorn Mom

Sgt. Sarorn Mom is a member of the 108th Area Support Medical Company, 213th Regional Support Group, Pennsylvania Army National Guard and a culinary specialist who has been in the Pa. Guard for ten years.

Mom, a Philadelphia native, said when she’s not cooking food for the 108th ASMC, she works at a similar job preparing food at an exclusive members-only club.

Living up to Army standards has had a big impact on Mom and affects the choices she makes in her daily life.

“I have changed drastically from who I was before and who I am today,” said Mom. “I didn’t make good choices in life, and joining the military set standards for me and made me think about the choices I make.”

Mom said she likes learning new things and being mentored, especially pertaining to culinary arts. During her recent two-week annual training at Camp Dodge, she was fortunate to be involved in some one-on-one training.

“I love being able to see what I’m doing and hearing what I’m doing at the same time and having my own hands-on experience with it,” she said. “That’s really cool.”

She said she is proud of her service and hopes others in her family some day make the decision to join as well. Mom plans on having a long military career and expects to continue learning.

“The Army taught me discipline, mannerisms, how to be humble and appreciate the little things,” she said. “I will never regret joining the military.”
