Pfc. Hamza Mohamed, power generation specialist, took no time in showing a technical expertise and work ethic that far surpasses both his rank and time-spent in the U.S. Army.
“The first day we were out here, they were having issues with the 30-kilowatt generator,” said Chief Warrant Officer 3 Jason Kokesch, brigade property book officer. “He spent all day working to get it to go – he would not stop until it was done.”
And get it to go he did, ensuring the 434th Maintenance Support Company would be up-and-running from the get-go of the 347th Regional Support Group’s 2019 annual training in Fort Hood, Texas. Mohamed is one of four maintenance personnel currently attached to the brigade headquarters, bolstering capabilities to keep life support operations running and vehicles moving.
“Right away when I got here he was making an impression,” said Chief Warrant Officer 3 Chad Gould, 434th SMC electronics maintenance officer. “You give him a mission, and you can trust that it will get done the right way.”
Mohamed enlisted in 2017 and is in his second year with the Minnesota National Guard, 12 years after his family emigrated from Somalia in. He joined the U.S. Army because “I saw a commercial and thought it looked fun!”
Safe to say his leadership is enjoying his service as well.
“He’s having a good time out here, and he has an exceptional positive attitude,” said Gould. “Couldn’t ask for a better Soldier.”
