FORT CARSON, Co. – Soldiers and families from 4th Sustainment Brigade, received an “All-American” meal as part of their brigade organizational day put together by the All-American Beef Battalion June 22 at Iron Horse Park.
Everyone in attendance received an 18 oz. ribeye steak served with a variety of sides as a sign of appreciation for their service and help build the morale of the unit.
“This was the best steak that I’ve had in a very long time,” said Marcus Pollice, personnel management specialist, Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 4th Special Troops Battalion, 4SB, 4ID. “The food was well prepared and delicious. It was definitely worth coming in on a Saturday for.”
The All-American Beef Battalion, is an organization that was founded in 2007 by Bill Broadie, a Vietnam veteran and third generation rancher. This non-profit group organizes and sponsor steak feeds, entertainment, and projects with Military members and their families.
“Bill was traveling around the US in 2007 listening to all the negative political talk on the radio about our Soldiers and didn’t like what he was hearing,” said Jon Fort, senior vice chairman for Steaks for Troops. “He didn’t want to see today’s Soldiers get treated the same way he was. So he came up with the brainchild of saying thank you with an 18 oz. ribeye with all the sides.”
The All-American Beef Battalion, is operated by an all-volunteer force which has served meals to over 400 thousand service members, veterans and their families in 26 states.
“We all cherish the opportunity to say thank you to the Soldiers and shake everyone’s hands,” Mr. Fort said. “A successful day for us is a bunch of full bellies and smiling faces.”
The group of volunteers that were in attendance on June 22 definitely saw a lot of smiling faces and had a very successful day.
“A lot of people will say ‘thank you for your service’ and it sometimes you can tell it’s not genuine,” Pollice said. “When these people say it, you know it’s heartfelt and sincere. They truly enjoy working with Soldiers and it shows in everything they do.”
