Celebrating Army Birthday in Romania

Romanian Soldiers celebrated the Army Birthday today with the 126th Press Camp Headquarters from Michigan in Cincu, Romania.

The 126th has been working closely with the Romanian Public Affairs during Saber Guardian 19; the cohesion and camaraderie have been crucial to accomplishing the mission.

Saber Guardian is an exercise co-led by Romania’s Land Forces Command and U.S. Army Europe, taking place from June 3-24, 2019, at various locations in Bulgaria, Hungary, and Romania. Included among the many different training events at SG19 is a vehicle road march, medical training, a river crossing, a computer-assisted exercise, an air defense artillery live fire, and many other live fire exercises. Saber Guardian is designed to improve the integration of multinational combat forces.

When the 126 PCH entered the Media Operations Center on June 14, they were welcomed by their Romanian PAO counterparts playing the Army Song and standing to shake hands with them, wishing each of them a Happy Birthday. The Romanian Soldiers also presented the unit with a Birthday cake as well as gifts.

Each Soldier from the 126th was given two coins. The coins are both commemorative 50 Bani Coins, one of which was minted in 2014, marking the 650th anniversary of the beginning of the reign of Vladislav I Vlaicu. The other coin was minted in 2015, marking the 10 year anniversary of the re-denomination of the Romanian currency.

“It was a surprise for you guys, a special gift from the bottom of our hearts,” said Ovidiu Sfiriac, a Public Affairs Officer with the Romanian Land Forces, who presented the 126th with the gifts.
