CAMP ARIFJAN, Kuwait - Soldiers of the Fort Worth, Texas, based 320th Quartermaster Detachment, U.S. Army Reserve, assumed responsibility for the forward Central Command Joint Petroleum Office from the 590th Quartermaster Detachment in a transfer of authority ceremony at Camp Arifjan, Kuwait, June 09, 2019.
Petroleum is essential for sustaining and keeping the mission moving. The subject matter experts of petroleum are responsible for supervising and managing the reception, storage, and shipping of bulk or packaged petroleum-based products.
The 590th Quartermaster Detachment, nine Soldiers with a combined 153 years of active service mostly in the petroleum field, conducted quality assistance visits in Afghanistan, Iraq, and Kuwait. They also certified four labs as well as one authority to operate a lab in theater.
"As the conduit to the Army Petroleum Center, your petroleum laboratory specialists are the only Soldiers authorized to act on the Army's behalf for the certification of labs in the theater." said Brig. Gen. Clint E. Walker, deputy commanding general of 1st Theater Sustainment Command.
"We are handing you the keys to the now vacant rooms, you guys will do great." said Lt. Col. Larry Moore, 590th commander.
The 320th knows that they are part of a team of teams and are highly motivated to get the job done.
"We are grateful to have this opportunity to assist," said Lt Col. Maria Carrillo, 320th commander.
"I expect you to accomplish the mission, safely. There is risk in everything we do, but you all have been trained in risk management. Be smart, use your training, complete your mission and get home safely," said Walker. "It's your mission now. Look at problems with fresh eyes, and find new ways to improve."
