Soldier Spotlight: Spc. Courtney Petrauskas

FORT INDIANTOWN GAP, Pa. – The 28th Expeditionary Combat Aviation Brigade spotlights Spc. Courtney Petrauskas, information technology specialist with Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 28th ECAB.

Petrauskas is originally from Altoona. She is a student at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, pursuing a bachelor’s degree in management information systems and also works part-time for a call center answering calls for doctors after-hours. She runs the 28th ECAB help desk, and her duties include troubleshooting communication and computer problems for Soldiers, as well as setting up certain communication equipment to keep the brigade connected.

Her duties in the Pennsylvania Army National Guard closely mirror her civilian education.

“My major is the same thing I do in the Army,” said Petrauskas. “I want to do project management in IT after school. I’m glad I got this MOS because it provided me an education and certification in IT.”

Petrauskas enjoys helping people and her favorite part of her military duties is when customers come to her for help. She describes a good day as when she accomplishes all tickets, or requests for assistance, by the end of the day. The challenging days are when she has a unique problem and nobody to help her, but she says that with “a little magic” she can still get the job done.

Originally wanting to join the PAARNG as a military police or CBRN specialist, Petrauskas is happy she ended up where she is because of the opportunities and certifications it has provided her.

“This was not my choice of MOS, it was like my fifth choice,” said Petrauskas. “I like it now that I am in it. It is a lot of fun. There are challenges but it’s ok.”
