U.S. Army Soldiers face off against Romanian National Team in baseball game

CONSTANTA, Romania-- U.S. Army Soldiers faced off in the third annual Jackie Robinson Trophy baseball game at the Farul Stadium in Constanta, Romania, May 11, 2019.

The American Army team, comprised of volunteers, played against the Romanian National Baseball Team.

Staff Sgt. Casee Williams, 1440th Firefighters, Michigan Army National Guard, stationed at Mihail Kogalniceanu Air Base, Romania, said that he had never played baseball before but decided to participate in the game for β€œthe comradery and the cohesion amongst ourselves and the Romanian people.”

Both teams wore the number β€œ42” on their jerseys to honor Jackie Robinson. This yearly tradition, coordinated by the U.S. Embassy in Romania, helps fortify bonds and community relationships with the Romanian people.
