XLer of the week: Airman 1st Class Arial Taylor

Airman 1st Class Arial Taylor, a 47th Comptroller Squadron commander support staff administration journeyman, was chosen by wing leadership to be the “XLer” of the week, for the week of April 17, 2019, at Laughlin Air Force Base, Texas.

The “XLer” award, presented by Col. Lee Gentile, 47th Flying Training Wing commander, is given to those who consistently make outstanding contributions to their unit and the Laughlin mission.

Taylor was elected as president of the Laughlin Enlisted Dorm Council, where she advocates for approximately 109 junior enlisted permanent party members.

“We’re trying to have a dorm cookout in May,” Taylor said. “It’s been difficult because we can’t fundraise since we’re a private organization, but everything is coming together slowly but surely. I couldn’t have gone as far as we have without the team we have, they’re great.”

Taylor has also been the lead unit fitness manager and physical training lead for both the Wing Staff Agencies and CPTS, managing seven PTLs, transitioning 67 personnel from the Fitness Assessment Cell to unit physical fitness tests and overseeing the PT tests of 36 personnel.

“The PT program work has been going really well,” Taylor said. “There’s been a few complications but for the most part we get through it.”

Additionally, Taylor has been performing the duties of two NCO’s during a manning gap, consolidating inputs for weekly staff meetings, tracking enlisted performance reports and officer performance reports, tracking decorations and awards and providing high level support for the CPTS squadron commander, as well as providing support to CPTS and WSA personnel.

“When I first got here, my first supervisor was back and forth to medical appointments,” Taylor said. “When I got to the staff side my supervisor moved to the wing, so I never really sat next to anyone and got the ‘how do you do this?’ training. So it’s been kind of difficult since this isn’t the normal position an Airman would be in, but it’s ok. I’ve learned a lot from this experience.”

For her work in supporting dorm Airmen, Ensuring CPTS and WSA Airmen are fit to fight, and stepping up to support the staff responsibilities of two squadrons, Airman 1st Class Arial Taylor has earned the “XLer of the week”.
