REDSTONE ARSENAL, Ala. (April 26, 2019) – U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command Aviation & Missile Center employee Jason Matheney has been awarded the 2018 Army Acquisition Executive’s Excellence in Leadership Science and Technology Professional of the Year.
An employee with CCDC AvMC since 2009, Matheney is currently matrixed to the Project Management Office, Aircraft Survivability Equipment as the deputy product director for the Quick Reaction Capability Product Office. His team develops and integrates equipment onto Army aircraft to protect the aircraft and its crews from foreign threat missiles.
“It is very satisfying knowing that the systems we develop and field are playing a vital role in protecting Army aviators and Soldiers so that they can return home,” said Matheney. “I am very honored and humbled to be nominated and selected for this award.”
According to https://asc.army.mil/, nominees must occupy an acquisition workforce designated position and be current in their Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act certification and continuous learning points. The Assistant Secretary of the Army for Acquisition, Logistics and Technology Science and Technology Professional of the Year Award “applauds the individual whose outstanding contributions and achievements merit special recognition.”
Matheney’s efforts have played a significant role in shaping future ASE capabilities, and the results of his accomplishments will have immediate and long-lasting effects on the Army aviation community. “As a direct result of (Jason’s) efforts, the AH-64E (Apache) platforms in theater have already flown over 5,000 combat hours to date,” said retired Col. Jong H. Lee, PM ASE project manager.
“(Jason) has been an important member of our leadership throughout the 10 or so years he's been here,” said Doug Barnes, PM ASE project manager. “His technical knowledge combined with extensive program management experience form a powerful skillset which he has utilized in multiple assignments across our portfolio.”
Matheney credits his team with helping him accomplish all that he has at PM ASE. “The sensors and countermeasure systems we integrate onto army aircraft are complex and require a unique and experienced workforce,” Matheney said. “The people at ASE are extremely good at developing, testing, integrating, and managing the ASE equipment and deserve all of the credit that goes along with this award.”
