Major General Patrick D. Sargent, Commander U.S. Army Medical Department, Health Center of Excellence (AMEDDC&S HRCoE), welcomed students attending the Brigade Health Care Provider Course at Joint Base San Antonio- Fort Sam Houston.
During his remarks, Sargent talked with the students about the purpose of the course, talked about his experience in Army Medicine and fielded questions from the students. The students, who are assigned to the course on a two week temporary duty, asked about HRCoE’s move to the U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC), the transition of military facilities to the Defense Health Agency, the Army Combat Physical Fitness Test, nutrition and fitness requirements for new recruits and accessibility to professional military education.
Sargent discussed how Army Medicine is an essential part of the Army Modernization Strategy and Future Force Modernization Enterprise and is crucial to the Army’s ability to fight and win our Nation’s wars.
“My goal is to develop you into Army medical professionals,” said Sargent. “You need to champion the interest of the Army Medical Department at the battalion, brigade, division, and corps levels. We will ensure you are ready to fight a Large Scale Ground Combat Operation as we transition to Multi-domain Operations.”
The Brigade Health Care Provider course provides training to selected Officers on Army Medical Department (AMEDD) systems, policies, and a doctrinal knowledge common to all AMEDD providers and allows the flexibility to utilize separate functional area tracks of instruction for each provider's Area of Concentration. Additionally, this course will reinforce the Army Surgeon General's priorities and increase readiness for units and Soldiers in operational and garrison environments.
