Family of Pittsburgh Soldier receives Distinguished Service Cross

WHAT: The family of Staff Sgt. Stevon Booker will be presented the Distinguished Service Cross during an Army awards ceremony at Pittsburgh’s Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall and Museum on Friday, April 5. Booker, a 3rd Infantry Division Soldier, was killed in action in Iraq
on April 5, 2003. Lt. Gen. Laura Richardson, the deputy commander of U.S. Army Forces Command, will present the nation’s second highest award for valor to Booker’s mother and sister.

Media is invited to cover three events on Friday, April 5:
-8:45 a.m.: Media opportunity with Ms. Freddie Jackson (Booker’s mother), Ms. Kim TalleyArmstead (Booker’s sister), Col. Andrew Hilmes (Booker’s former company commander), and Mr. Robert Burik (Operation Iraqi Freedom historian).
-9:30 a.m.: Plaque dedication in Soldier and Sailors’ Hall of Valor.
-10:00 a.m.: Distinguished Service Cross award ceremony

WHEN: The media opportunity begins at 8:45 a.m. and media linkup is 8 a.m.

WHERE: News media interested in providing coverage will link up at the main entrance (Fifth Avenue facing entrance) of Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall and Museum 4141 Fifth Ave., Pittsburgh, PA.
