This past month, I was able to recite these words during my re-enlistment ceremony, and it reminded me of the pride I felt when I decided to enlist for the first time, in May 2013. These words serve as my guide, allowing me to reflect on what it means to serve as a woman in the military. These words began a journey that would include fostering a camaraderie with the 36 other young women in my basic military training flight. These words have given me a career and new opportunities, but above all, have allowed me to bond with my sisters in service. These words have been recited by millions of women, women who have volunteered for the honor to fight for the freedom of others.
In a time when it was unprecedented for women to serve, Loretta Walsh became the first woman
to enlist in the military, serving in the U.S. Navy. Now, 102 years later, women have served with honor and distinction, and the women of the 165th Airlift Wing are no exception; Always Ready. Always There.
Women at the 165th AW have made history and held notable leadership positions. Women take the oath. Women serve. Women support. Women have made history. I personally want to take this time to say thank you to all my sisters in service. Happy National Women’s History Month.
