Decatur, Illinois – The Illinois Army National Guard received notification that approximately 90 Soldiers and equipment from the 1st Battalion, 106th Aviation Regiment are slated to be activated for federal service in the spring of 2020.
The unit is scheduled to provide airlift capability for a stateside mission in support of Northern Command. The unit will be based at Fort Belvoir, Virginia, for the duration of the activation. The activation is expected to last approximately 10 months.
“The Illinois National Guard is vital to our nation’s defense; whether that is overseas, here in Illinois, or elsewhere in the United States,” said Brig. Gen. Richard R. Neely, The Adjutant General of the Illinois National Guard.
