Saliors Serve Ice Cream

NORFOLK, Va. – The American Diversity Heritage Observance Committee aboard the aircraft carrier USS George H.W. Bush (CVN 77) held an ice cream social to celebrate Black History Month on Feb. 20.

To kick off the celebration, members of ADHOC spoke to Sailors about the Navy’s diverse history.

“[ADHOC] decided to do an ice cream social and cake-cutting for our observance of Black History Month, because we knew a lot of people were focused on the shipyard move,” said Electronics Technician 2nd Class Trevor Mireles, from Euless, Texas. “We figured cake and ice cream is a good way to do it, so why not incorporate it with our celebration?”

Mireles said Sailors keep their focus on work, so events celebrating diversity can help relieve stress and provide recognition to the history of different people.

ADHOC’s next event will be a fun run/walk across the Jordan Bridge in celebration of National Women’s History Month on March 21.
