Santa Rita, Guam – The Seabees assigned to 30th Naval Construction Regiment (30NCR) concluded its first Command Post Exercise (CPX) since shifting its homeport from Port Hueneme Calif. to Guam seven months prior, Jan. 31.
CPX 19-1 was a four-day exercise that tested the staff’s ability to establish command and control, communication infrastructure and procedures, and ensure they’re working together as a cohesive command staff, while acting as a deployed unit away from its homeport. CPX 19-1 was specifically designed to test the command’s ability to execute major combat operations.
30NCR’s Commodore, Capt. Steve Stasick’s priorities for the command were to get the staff accustomed to working in the field environment, to test established processes, and ensure communication infrastructure and abilities were deployed and working adequately.
“I was pleased to see the staff improve their communication and situational control each day. The watch standers reacted quickly to each scenario they were presented with and wasted no time in coordinating and executing their responses,” said Stasick. “The expertise the Seabees displayed during CPX combined with the capabilities of the equipment they operate creates an agile, responsive, and proficient command staff able to carry out the Naval Construction Force mission in the face of any natural or man-made crisis."
CPX 19-1 is part of a two-year series of exercises that will culminate with 30NCR conducting their Navy Integrated Exercise (NIEX) later this year.
As Commander Task Group 75.5, 30NCR provides command and control over all naval construction force units in the 7th Fleet area of operations. 30NCR enables the real-time mobility of response for engineering units and other assigned forces to provide expeditionary, general and limited combat engineer capability to respond to major combat operations and contingencies, conduct Theater Security Cooperation Plan operations, and execute Humanitarian Assistance Disaster Response (HA/DR) and Civil-Military Operations within the Pacific.
