Naval Construction Battalion Center Gulfport’s Fleet and Family Service Center (FFSC) celebrated the completion of its first “FFSC Ambassador Experience” November 15, 2018.

“FFSC Ambassador Experience” was designed to educate service members on the most relevant topics related to them and to acquaint them to the FFSC staff.

“Everyone says they hate PowerPoint classes, so we’re using hands-on methods that are focused on topics that matter to our service members,” said Paula Ingram, FFSC educator.

Service members who have taken the class say that it helps them better understand the resources that are available to them.

“I learned a lot going through this,” said Information Systems Technician 2nd Class Shelby Ullrich, a Sailor assigned to Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 133. “I think the bulk of this material is fairly practical, not only to me, but to all Sailors.”

Training employees is often one of the highest budget line items for corporate companies in America. In 2012, U.S. companies spent $164.2 billion on employee learning and development. The same study, conducted by the Association of Talent development of 475 organizations, revealed that an average of $1,195 was spent on every corporate employee.

“The services and products we’re offering in this class would cost $200 per session in the corporate world,” said Barbara Jones, director of Gulfport FFSC.

Jones says the FFSC staff is excited about this opportunity to work closely with customers.

Going forward, FFSC plans on holding a class every month as long as the interest holds. Their next class this year is scheduled to start on December 3rd. Service members of all branches are encouraged to sign up.

To sign up, call the FFSC office at (228) 871-3000 or email NCBCGulfportFFSC@navy.mil.
