Fort McCoy Forestry team reviews timber sale bids

Forester James R. Kerkman, Forestry Technician Charles Mentzel, Permit Sales Office Coordinator Julie Steinhoff, and Forestry Technician Leigh Neitzel reviewed 2019 timber sale bids Dec. 18, 2018, at Fort McCoy, Wis.

The bids are received annually in December on post and are coordinated with the Forestry Office of the Directorate of Public Works (DPW) Environmental Division Natural Resources Branch, the Permit Sales Office, and the DPW Real Property Office.

Once the bids are finalized, then coordination is done for logging in the upcoming year on the installation. Revenue from the timber sales goes into an Armywide forestry account and is returned to fund forestry projects on Fort McCoy.

Timber-harvest activities also support Fort McCoy's strategic objective of enhancing the post's military training value through improved area utilization and land use initiatives.

Located in the heart of the upper Midwest, Fort McCoy is the only U.S. Army installation in Wisconsin. The installation has provided support and facilities for the field and classroom training of more than 100,000 military personnel from all services each year since 1984.
