Sugar and spice: Special delivery for Lakenheath Airmen

The Liberty Spouses and First Sergeants Associations delivered cookie donations to Airmen living in the dorms here on Royal Air Force Lakenheath, England, Dec. 12, 2018.

This holiday season the LSA received approximately 8,000 cookies baked and donated from the Liberty Wing community members.

“The drive was initially started simply to spread some cheer among the single, dorm-residing Airmen,” said Brianna Gray, LSA fundraising chair and Airman Cookie Drive chair. “For many of them, this is probably when they would want to be stateside with family most, and we want to do what we can to make the holidays a little better for them.”

After the cookies were packaged by the LSA, the first sergeants traveled dorm-to-dorm and door-to-door delivering the goodies to each dorm resident.

The Airman Cookie Drive has been running for at least nine years to help the Airmen feel a little more at home while being overseas.

“It really reminded me of the holidays back home making cookies with my family,” said a 48th Fighter Wing Airman and dorm resident. “It made me feel less home sick. It was incredibly thoughtful, and I am very grateful.”

The Airman Cookie Drive is an annual event that began nine years ago, helping Airmen feel a little more at home while being overseas.

“I know when I was an Airman in the dorms, I didn’t have the funds or the opportunities to go home,” said Master Sgt. Jason Jenkins, 48th Communications Squadron first sergeant. “A nice genuine smile, a handshake and cookies went a long way for me.”
