Faces of Recovery: SSgt Kwadwo Dankyi

The first time I came back it was still dark out here, no lights on, it was almost like a cemetery if I may compare. Nothing looked the same, it basically felt like the base was done with. I honestly thought we were here to recover stuff and call it goodbye.
Before [Hurricane Michael] we did a whole array of things to include occupational health, environmental health, emergency response and radiation detection. What we are back here doing now is mainly environmental, particularly drinking water. We are making sure the drinking water system was not affected by any means. We also make sure that those working here on base have the appropriate personal protective equipment when they are dealing with mold or fibers or anything that could be hazardous to their health.
Compared to when I first arrived, the recovery has been very speedy. I am super impressed. I often run into people who have just arrived and they often say that it looks like nothing happened, I tell them they should have seen this place a month or two ago. Recovery has been amazingly fast. Personally, I come onto the base every day and I am like wow, mind-blown, so I think recovery is going extremely well.
