Soldiers assigned to the Southeast Medical Area Readiness Support Group, welcomed a new company commander during a change of command ceremony at Nashville State Community College in Nashville, TN on October 20, 2018.

Capt. Tyler E. Salyers relinquished command of the SE-MARSG, Headquarters and Headquarters Company to Capt. Julie L. Cothern. Salyers has served with the unit since 2013, and assumed command in 2016. This was his first command level assignment.

“Captain Salyers has done such an amazing job as opposed to where it was,” Cothern said. “I can definitely see the vision. So I want to continue moving forward, take some stuff off of his plate and go from there.”

Salyers will stay with the SE-MARSG as a brigade mobilization officer. Capt. Cothern will take on his role as the company commander. Cothern will lean heavily on her administrative background as she assumes her first command position.

“You really want to make sure you place your soldiers above yourself. I feel like while I was there I really embodied that and tried to take that on myself,” Salyers said. “As soon as I took command and started doing it, I just loved it. It has just become a passion of mine.”
