FORT LEE, Va. (Aug. 30, 2018) -- The annual 23rd Quartermaster Brigade Drill and Ceremony Competition took place at Williams Stadium Aug. 25 with its usual mix of raucous cheering,formal and informal marching performances and festival atmosphere.
Soldiers from the brigade's three battalions as well as participants from the Marine Corps Detachment and the Air Force 345th Training Squadron competed for trophies in the regulation and freestyle events.
Entries from the Guardian Battalion - formally known as the 244th QM Bn. - was victorious over them all, winning in both competitive categories.
Speaking to the performers and spectators afterward, Command Sgt. Maj. Lisa Haney, 23rd QM Bde. CSM, commended the participation of each.
"We had some great, great competitors out here today, and that's what it's all about," she said. "We work hard and we play hard. Today was a day to show your talent, discipline, motivation and most of all, your esprit de corps."
The 244th earned a few pieces of hardware for its performance, including the Golden Boot trophy.
Drill and ceremony competitions are held to promote discipline and teamwork that are necessary to successfully complete military missions.
