REDSTONE ARSENAL, Ala. — To ensure the Army keeps pace with technological changes, senior leaders joined forces to discuss important cyber issues.
Army Cyber Command’s Commanding General Lt. Gen. Stephen G. Fogarty met with Army Materiel Command’s Commanding General Gen. Gus Perna, Deputy Commanding General Lt. Gen. Ed Daly and other senior staff Aug. 13, to discuss the intricacies of the DOD information network.
“Our bread and butter is to operate and defend system networks,” said Fogarty.
ARCYBER is engaged in the real-world cyberspace fight against near-peer adversaries, ISIS and other global cyber threats. It defends military networks, secures Army weapons platforms and protects critical infrastructure. Army Cyber forces are deployed globally, conducting defensive and offensive cyber operations.
Fogarty outlined ARCYBER’s top three priorities: operate and defend the DOD information network; deliver offensive and defensive cyberspace effects; and develop and deploy cyberspace capabilities. He said ARCYBER is looking at base-level issues across Army Materiel Command and FORSCOM, trying to better understand the organizations’ unique perspectives and requirements within the joint network.
“Our discussions with the ARCYBER team highlighted the importance, dependencies and complexity of the joint network,” said Daniel Bradford, chief information officer of the G-2/G-6 at Army Materiel Command. “The visit provided Army Materiel Command the opportunity to communicate our cyber needs, mission assurance requirements, challenges, and mission assurance.”
Bradford said the visit helped strengthen a cyber strategic partnership.
“Building a collaborative partnership with ARCYBER strengthens cyber readiness across Army Materiel Command,” said Bradford.
Brig. Gen. Thomas A. Pugh, 7th Signal commanding General from Fort Gordon, Georgia, was also a part of the discussions. ARCYBER headquarters is relocating from Fort Belvoir, Virginia, to Fort Gordon within the next year.
Also taking part in the discussions was Jeff Finley, ARCYBER’s liaison officer to Army Materiel Command.
“ARCYBER can help Army Materiel Command visualize its total cyber operational environment and assist the Command in hardening its key systems,” he said.
