Increasing Quality of Life for the Students at Chuuk High School

The Seabees focus was to provide high-quality construction and ultimately improve the quality of life for the students attending Chuuk High School. The project was constructed while a teacher conference was being held, so the CCAD took extra precautions to ensure safety in and around the jobsite. Chuuk High School’s Principal, Jason Reiong said, “The teachers are impressed with the work that is being completed and enjoy seeing the school grow and improve.”
From start to finish, the appreciation could be seen and felt from the community. “There is not a day where we don’t have people just stop and come talk to us about what we are doing,” said Steelworker 2nd Class Gregory Shipman who is the Project Supervisor for the Awnings and Sidewalks Project. The drive and passion of the crew enabled them to complete the project three days ahead of schedule which will allowed them to get started early on other projects for the High School such as renovating the existing restroom facilities on campus.
The Seabees of NMCB-11 CCAD FSM’s efforts are aimed at improving the quality of life for the students while strengthening Host Nation relationships, providing educational infrastructure improvements and displaying the U.S. commitment to the Federated States of Micronesia.
NMCB-11 is homeported in Gulfport, Mississippi, and is part of the Naval Construction Force (NCF). They currently have personnel assigned to more than 15 locations world-wide performing a variety of missions in support of the Navy and the Department of Defense.
