Pennsylvania National Guard preparing to host 2018 ARNG Best Warrior Competition

FORT INDIANTOWN GAP, Pa. –The Pennsylvania National Guard will host the 17th annual 2018 Army National Guard Best Warrior Competition here July 22-27.

Preparations are underway to accommodate 14 competitors and visitors from New York, Virginia, Maryland, Kentucky, Georgia, Illinois, Wisconsin, Arkansas, Nebraska, Oregon, South Dakota, Colorado and Utah.

This is the first time the installation has been selected to host the national event. Fort Indiantown Gap is the primary location for the 16-event competition which includes formal board interviews, physical fitness challenges, written exams, and warrior tasks and battle drills to test the whole Soldier concept.

“It is an honor to have the opportunity to host this competition here at Fort Indiantown Gap,” said Command Sgt. Maj. Thomas Buck, the installation CSM. “This is the ideal environment to test these Soldiers’ physical and mental toughness, endurance and skills with a wide range of warrior tasks.”

One junior enlisted Soldier and one non-commissioned officer from seven regions throughout the United States will compete to determine who will advance to the Department of the Army Best Warrior Competition at Fort A.P. Hill, Va., and the Pentagon from Sept. 30 to Oct. 5, 2018.

Fort Indiantown Gap is the busiest Army National Guard Training Center in the nation and is run by members of the Pennsylvania National Guard and Pennsylvania Department of Military and Veterans Affairs.
